中国古代有“雪夜闭门读禁书”一说，大雪封门，寂静无声，在油灯下品读一本禁书也算是一种境界。不过现在人没有这种闲情雅致了，禁书和非禁书看起来已没什么差别。
所以，听听禁歌说不定比读禁书更有趣味，有时候说不定会有一种品尝禁果的快感。
我第一次听到真正意义上的禁歌是在1990年，当时中图处理音像制品，在一个拼盘里我听到了一首由一对法国男女歌手（Serge Gainsbourg和Jane Birkin，U吧注）演唱的《我爱你……我和你》(je t'aime moi non plus)，当这首歌前奏响起来，才知道在80年代中期一些比较流行的“恋人浪漫曲”系列中听到过，因为这首歌旋律实在是太优美了。当时听并没有觉得有什么异样，惟一的反应就是“外国人什么都敢唱”。5年后，我才知道这首充满性暗示、呻吟和喘息之声的歌曲在1969年出版之后被英国和美国电台全面禁播。

这首歌的歌名颇为费解，某些英文网站也对这个歌名有不同的解释，有人翻成I love you ,I can’t love you more，也有人翻成I love you, me niether，最离谱的是I love you, I love you no more。问题就在后面的moi non plus，在法文里，这是“我也不”的意思，而非“我不再”，但它通常只接在否定句之后。在这首歌词里，它是接在女声的Je t'aime Je t'aime（我爱你我爱你）之后，前面是肯定句，后面却接“我也不”这样带有同意意味“也”的否定句，在英文里的确很难翻译。从对歌词上下文的考察，以及Serge对女性的看法，在这里翻成“我爱你，我并不”。还望高手指正。
这首歌早在1950年代就已经由Serge Gainsbourg与当时的女友Brigitte Bardot（碧姬芭杜）合唱过，而这首歌的灵感正是来自于两人的闺房行乐。Serge与Brigitte Bardot合唱的版本在当年因做爱的喘息声太过明显而被列为禁歌，今天我们可以听到的Jane Birkin的版本基本上已经收敛许多，但仍然难逃被禁的命运。

后来才知道，在西方许多国家，唱片出版有着极为严格的审查制度，因为有这样的制度，就会有被封杀的歌曲，所以听到的机会也就多一些。美国对唱片出版审查制度始于50年代摇滚乐出现时，出于对国内种族歧视和对国际共产主义运动的恐惧，美国人将摇滚乐、种族问题和共产主义联系在一起。你很难想像出当时的情景，芝加哥一家电台播放摇滚乐，竟收到15000封抗议信。当白人从黑人那里学会了节奏与布鲁斯之后也好不到哪里，白人唱黑人歌曲面临第一件事就是改歌词，要把一些敏感或出格词句改得比较安全一些，有关机构常常臆断那些导致年轻人不安、躁动的摇滚乐是赤色分子所为。
60年代流行音乐是一个非常活跃时期，对歌曲审查也达到了空前高度，“滚石”乐队的《我无法得到满足》显然成了禁中之禁。

一些歌手在现场表演时往往都会被通知更改歌词，“滚石”在演唱《让我们共度良宵》（Let's Spend The Night Together）被改成《让我们度过一段时光》(Let's Spend Some Time Together)，但也有一些人宁为玉碎不为瓦全，“大门”(The Doors)乐队在现场表演时被告知如果他们演唱《点燃我的火焰》(Light My Fire)这首歌时必须把其中的一句“姑娘我们不能再来一次高潮”(Girl we couldn't get much higher)改掉，否则就不许演唱，吉姆·莫里森(Jim Morrison)同意了，但他在演唱时还是把这句唱了出来。鲍勃·迪伦也遇到过类似情况，傲慢的迪伦干脆就拒绝表演。

对某些词句过于敏感使很多歌曲成了牺牲品，60年代毒品文化盛行，有一个词常常被提起，这就是“High”，凡是歌曲中出现“High”一词都被赋予了无穷想像力，“飞鸟”乐队有一首歌叫《八英里高》（Eight Miles High），歌词里有一句“从八英里高处感觉坠落，你会发现奇妙无穷”，这句语焉不详的歌词被认为是描写吸毒感受而被禁播，当然这时没有人理会乐队的解释——这是描写坐飞机的感受。中规中矩的乡村歌手约翰·丹佛也不能幸免，谁让他写了一首《高高的洛基山》（Rocky Mountain High）而不是《平平的大草原》呢。

60年代审查制度最大冤狱非“路易·路易事件”莫属了。1963年，美国波特兰市一支名叫“金斯曼”(the Kingsmen)的乐队演唱了一首名叫《路易·路易》(Louie Louie)的歌，这首歌是一个名叫理查德·贝里的人写于1955年，并在1957年被一支演唱组录制成唱片，但这首改自水手歌谣的唱片出版后几乎无人知晓，而来自偏僻西北部的“金斯曼”翻唱这首歌后同样没多少人注意。致使这首歌成为美国音乐历史传奇的原因是乐队歌手杰克·埃利在唱片录制前一天晚上损坏了声带，所以第二天录音时他把这首歌唱得含混不清。当这首歌渐渐在中学生中间流传时，人们开始用自己的想像来理解这首歌词了，于是谣言的传播像滚雪球一样膨胀，说歌词根本不是水手歌谣，而是一首淫秽歌曲，并且，只有用45转的速度播放才能听出他们这张33转唱片的歌词。根据当时的逻辑，“如果不能说清歌词的含义，那么里面一定隐藏着什么东西”。这首歌引起了联邦调查局局长埃德加·胡佛的注意，他立刻纠集了一些专家，花了两年半的时间和不知花去多少纳税人的钱整天听这首歌，最后一无所获，这是胡佛干过愚蠢的事中最愚蠢的一件。因为有了这段传奇，《路易·路易》在后来被翻唱了一千多次，理查德·贝里为此收到了200万美元的版税。“路易·路易事件”是对当时神经过敏的美国当局最有力的讽刺。

英国没有完善的歌曲审查制度，所以歌曲被禁播或禁止出售往往都是马后炮，因此英国人从来不为听不到禁歌而担心，自然也少了美国人“品尝禁果之后的快感”。所以像“性手枪”这样对女王大不敬的歌曲《神佑我王》(God Save the Queen)也能在伊丽莎白女王登基25周年纪念日时在全国发行。在当时看来，“性手枪”和他们的经纪人是一群不折不扣的混蛋，他们第一支单曲就是《英国无政府主义》(Anarchy in the UK)，向君主立宪发出挑战，显然，这首歌被电台禁播。但是“性手枪”并未因此罢休，接下来的《神佑我王》（和英国国歌同名）更加肆无忌惮，唱片封面上女王的嘴和眼睛被“God Save The Queen”和“Sex Pistols”字样封住，为此，印刷工人一度拒绝为封面制版印刷。他们在这首歌里唱道：

神佑我王
法西斯专政把你们变成白痴

这首歌引发的荒诞在于它转瞬之间就冲上了排行榜冠军，而此时的英国正洋溢在一片节日气氛之中——女王登基25周年，英国广播公司不得不在排行榜节目中将这首歌拿掉。

英国禁播史上还有一出极为荒唐的闹剧，那是在1991年海湾战争期间，英国一些电台DJ收到一份名单，建议不要在新闻节目中播放如下歌曲：“阿巴”（ABBA）乐队的《滑铁卢》（Waterloo）、“手镯”（Bangles）乐队的《像埃及人走路》（Walk Like An Egyptian）、“现状”（Status Quo）乐队的《正在服役》（In The Army Now）、约翰·列侬的《给和平一个机会》（Give Peace A Chance）、“动物”（Animals）乐队的《我们要突围而出》（We Got To Get Out Of This Place）、“治疗”（The Cure）乐队的《杀死一个阿拉伯人》（Killing an Arab）等一共67首。不知是谁犯了妄想狂的毛病，照此下去，连理查·马克斯的《在此等候》都有资格列入这份名单。
美国宪法保护公民言论自由，但同时也要保护商人利益和未成年人成长，所以在法律界定上就比较复杂。1992年，华盛顿州曾有议员提出一个“色情音乐议案”，对有色情内容的歌曲要在唱片明显位置标明“只限成人”字样，但州法院否决了这个议案，因为它明显违背宪法。于是问题就出来了，谁来保护未成年人？一些民间组织应运而生，比如1985年成立的“父母音乐资源中心”、“妇女反色情作品组织”等，这类组织直接向唱片工业协会发难，最有名的就是“父母音乐资源中心”曾开出一个“十五大淫艺人”名单，来抵制不良作品，但唱片工业协会只是在有问题的唱片封套上印上“父母忠告，歌词露骨”之类的警语走走形式，有时候这种警告反倒成了广告。如今差不多有点问题的唱片都贴上这个标签，人们也见怪不怪了。
在MTV时代，音乐录像又成了传播不良内容的窗口，据好事者统计，现在音乐录像中出现最多的镜头是女性的臀部、胸部和大腿，一些恐怖、暴力、性暗示的场面也层出不穷，视觉轰炸轮番登场。禁播是对付这些录像的惟一办法，仅麦当娜就有3首歌曲的音乐录像分别因挑逗耶稣、色情和暴力被MTV禁播。
有些唱片遭到审查并非歌词有问题，而仅仅是一张图片或是封面设计原因，这种审查往往是来自零售商的压力，比如布鲁斯·斯普林斯廷的唱片《生在美国》，因有人谣传封面是他对着星条旗撒尿而遭到抵制。

“简之瘾”(JANE'S ADDICTION)乐队的唱片《祭祀的习惯》封面因露出女人的乳房而被审查机构勒令重新设计，令人叫绝的是，他们重新设计的封面什么图案也没有，只有一句话：“第一修正案”（国会不得制定关于下列事项的法律：确立国教或禁止信教自由；剥夺言论自由或出版自由；或剥夺人民和平集会和向政府请愿伸冤的权利。U吧注）。

还记得洛杉矶警察殴打黑人罗德尼·金事件么，就在这个时候，黑人说唱歌手Ice-T唱片中有一首和这个事件毫无关系的《雷子杀手》遭到查封，当唱片公司被迫从唱片中拿掉这首歌时，Ice-T说了一句意味深长的话：“白人老板永远无法做好黑人音乐。”
今天你很容易就能听到一首禁歌，在没有人提醒的时候，你不会觉得有什么稀奇，但是当你得知它曾经遭到审查或被禁播或是被迫更改内容时，你会马上另眼相待，这种好奇心驱使好像让你发现了什么珍品，其实像《路易·路易》这样的经典禁歌实在不多。保罗·西蒙的《柯达胶卷》你可能听过，这首歌没有任何问题，但也是一首禁歌，如果我说出来禁播的原因你一定觉得无聊，因为歌曲有广告嫌疑。
